
The popular social networking site Facebook stopped working in different parts of the world on Monday, as many users faced problems in opening its desktop version.
Also, WhatsApp and Instagram stopped working in India as well as in different parts of the world Monday evening, west African time. Facebook messenger was observed to be malfunctioning too.
The three apps which are owned by Facebook and run on shared infrastructure, all completely stopped working shortly before 5 pm Nigerian time and 12 pm Indian time. Other products that are part of the same family of apps, such as Facebook Workplace, also stopped working.
Following this development, millions of customers fell into misery. The situation was said to be the same in different parts of the world for hours. News sources claimed that such disruption of four social media has not happened in the recent past.
Multiple users expressed their problems through Twitter. Though the cause of the problem was not clear, Facebook promptly announced through its website that something had gone wrong and that they were trying to fix the problem as soon as possible.
Social media activities were crippled until the report was published by Facebook.
