Family Planning Sensitization: Anambra Health Ministry to Partner with Parkers Mobile Clinic

Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, has said that his Ministry will partner Parkers Mobile Clinic on Family Planning (FP) sensitization across the state.

Dr. Obidike assured the Parkers Mobile Clinic that his ministry is committed in partnering with them for the benefit of the public as well as ensuring that hard to reach communities also benefited maximally from this programme.

Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike says his ministry will partner with Parkers Mobile Clinic on Family Planning (FP) sensitization across the state.

Dr. Obidike assured the Parkers Mobile Clinic that his ministry is committed in partnering with them for the benefit of the public as well as ensuring that hard to reach communities also benefited maximally from this programme.

The commissioner said this in his office when he received in audience, Parkers Mobile Clinic Partners, who were in the state to seek partnership in family planning programmes.

He commended Gov. Charles Soludo for creating conducive environment that has continued to attract partners to the state, and assured that his Ministry would fulfill its own part of the agreement.

“Family Planning allows people to attain their desired number of children, and to determine the spacing of their pregnancies.

“It helps protect women from any health risks that may occur before, during or after childbirth.

“So, FP helps couples avoid unintended pregnancies, it reduces the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), by addressing the problems of STDs and helps reduce rates of infertility.’’

Parkers Mobile Clinic Director, Dr. Charles Umeh, informed that they were in the state to facilitate partnership with the ministry in sensitizing the public on Family Planning through media campaigns.

“We visited the commissioner in order to introduce the new project that we are working on which is in partnership with Family Empowerment Media (FEM); it is an international organization that uses evidence to increase access to FP for individuals.

“So, we are starting up a three year contract with Firm, where we will use various aspect of the media to increase awareness of FP among people in Anambra State.’’

Dr. Umeh explained that Parkers Mobile Clinic is a health Non-Governmental Organization in the state, which helps to strengthen healthcare services to vulnerable population.

“Basically we work to ensure that people irrespective of their social class have access to healthcare services, we do this by partnering with all the organizations and donors in order to strengthen various aspects of healthcare services within the state,’’ he said.

He explained that FEM is partnering with them to execute a radio-based demand generation campaign in Anambra and that they would also be conducting evaluation activities including randomized control trials.

State FP Coordinator, Mrs. Amara Ezeokenwa said the group was in the state to sensitize the people more on FP and the need for people to accept FP.

“We are excited about the development because the partnership will last for 3years; we look forward to achieving greater things ahead.

“Our expectation is that at the end of the programme, more people will be enlightened on the need for FP.’’ (MOI)in family planning programmes.
