FATAL MOTOR VEHICLES/PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT CLAIMED ONE LIFE IN ONITSHA

A fatal road traffic crash occurred yesterday, the 2nd of October, 2020 beside Toronto Hospital along Asaba- Onitsha Express.
The incident which occurred at about 05:35 pm, involved a Brown Mack truck with registration number: XX 837 JJD and a yellow Daihatsu Hijet bus without a registration number.


Eye witnesses reported that the crash was caused by break Failure of the Truck, which lead to loss of control by the truck driver who crashed into the Hijet bus, which afterwards, landed into a nearby drainage.
A total of six 6 Male Adults were involved in the accident. 4 sustained varying degree of injuries and were taken to Toronto Hospital by FRSC Team from Upper Iweka, while 1 unfortunately lost his life and his body was subsequently deposited at the morgue, after being confirmed dead.
Both FRSC men of the Onitsha Unit and those of Upper Iweka outpost were on ground to manage traffic and ensure the obstruction was cleared.
The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, CC Andrew Kumapayi sent his condolences to the deceased family and wished the injured victim quick recovery.
He however, he advised motorists to always inspect their vehicles before embarking on any trip and take routine vehicle maintenance very serious as road traffic crashes are avoidable.

Similarly, another accident has lead to the loss of life of an individual and injured four others along Upper Iweka by old defunct NITEL, Onitsha.

The accident, which occurred on Friday, at about 5:05pm, involved a Mark truck with registration number; KK837JJJ with driver yet unknown; which lost control in motion and hit pedestrians. The truck thereafter, ran into a shuttle Bus with REG number FGG455XA.

As a result, five persons sustained varying degree of injuries.
Police operatives attached to CPS Onitsha quickly mobilized to the scene and rushed victims to Toronto hospital where the doctor confirmed one person dead on arrival while four others were said to be responding to treatment.

Meanwhile, the corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for postmortem examinations, and the road obstruction cleared to enable free flow of traffic.
The Truck driver escaped and efforts are underway to get him arrested.
The case is currently under Investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.

Consequently, the Command urges the public whose relations are yet to be seen to check Toronto hospital Onitsha for possible identification of the victims.
