Fatal Road Traffic Crash At Universal Bakery, Uzoakwa Ihiala By Ihiala-Owerri Road Claims One Life
A Road Traffic Crash which occurred at Universal Bakery, Uzoakwa Ihiala By Ihiala-Owerri Road on Thursday, 25th January, 2024, claimed at least one Life.
A release signed by the Acting Sector Public Education Officer, RC Margaret Onabe, attributed the cause of the crash which happened around 12noon, to Wrongful Overtaking Violation (WOV) and Speed.
The release said that three unidentified drivers; Nissan commercial bus with registration number: JJT-57XX, DAF Trailer with no registration number, and a Mack Trailer with no registration number were involved in the fatal road traffic crash
According to eyewitness, the bus driver stopped in front of Universal Bakery and was discharging passengers, while the two trailers were coming from behind with excessive speed trying to overtake each other, and as a result, the Mark trailer hit the bus to an electric pole which caused the bus to somersault and crashed.
According to the report, the two trailers, however, continued their movement without stopping.
She said 17 people comprising (13 male adults and 4 female adults) were involved in the crash, adding that 4 persons comprising 3male adults and one female adult were injured.
She further explained that 1 male adult died in the crash, while 12 persons were rescued unhurt.
“The injured victims were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihialla by FRSC rescue team from RS5.34 Ihialla Unit Command, while the dead victim was deposited at same hospital mortuary.
“FRSC Rescue team on ground managed the traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was removed.
Reacting to the incident, the Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, sympathised with the family of the dead victim and wished the injured quick recovery.
He warned motorists to desist from wrongful overtaking and drive within safe speed limit they can control.
He also advised commercial vehicles to park outside the road where it is safe to offload passengers.
