The Department of Development Control in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a quit notice to traders operating in the ‘Ya Kasuwa’ market along the N16 road corridor in Gwarinpa. Director of the department, Mukhtar Galadima, delivered the directive during a meeting with stakeholders, stressing the need for clearance operations to commence promptly.
Galadima emphasized that the contract for the development of the arterial road had already been awarded, and prolonged occupation by traders posed significant challenges to the scheduled execution. He urged the traders to vacate the premises by Wednesday to allow for the commencement of clearance operations on Thursday.
During the meeting, Galadima reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and urged cooperation from the traders in adhering to the eviction notice. He also addressed concerns raised by the traders regarding the authenticity of previous notices, assuring them of the administration’s determination to proceed with the road development project.
In response, Mohammed, the Secretary of the traders union, acknowledged the government’s message and pledged to relay it to the affected traders. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with authorities and assured that plans were underway to relocate the market.
In a related development, the Department of Development Control demolished a structure within an estate in the Karmo district for obstructing a floodplain. Garba Jubril, an official of the department, highlighted the challenges encountered during the enforcement process, including resistance from the developer and enlistment of police personnel.
Jubril emphasized the importance of adhering to building regulations in Abuja, emphasizing the city’s status as a planned environment. He underscored the need for developers to obtain necessary approvals and comply with building standards to ensure safety and structural integrity.
