Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has earmarked three major traffic offended which his personnels must enforce intensively and which motorists must also guide against in this new year.
In a press release which was issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Corps Marshall Bisi Kazeem in Abuja on Sunday, the three identified traffic offences were outcome of the review of crashes and fatality rates recorded during the Christmas and new year operational activities by the Corps.
According to him, the identified offences are speeding, overloading and non adherence to Covid-19 protocols both in vehicle and at the parks. He stated that the identified offences would form part of the core areas that the FRSC patrol teams will beam their operational searchlights on in the new year.
In the statement, while the Corps Marshal acknowledged some drivers that were orderly on their conduct while driving, motorists were also cautioned to desist from all traffic violations that could endanger their lives and those of other road users.
The Education Officer also noted that speed played a key role in the fatal crashes recorded during the festive period and to that effect, enforcement of speed limiting devices in the new year will be more aggressive and non compromising. He also stated that overloading of vehicle with goods and passengers and non adherence to Covid-19 protocols with regards to social distancing will not be condoned by the Corps.
Kazeem also reassured members of the public that FRSC will remain vigilant on the nation’s highways, especially as travellers are returning to their homes after the Christmas and new year celebrations in various places and also urged motorists to be considerate to other road users.
