The Federal Ministry of Works has given a stop-work order to the construction company allegedly hired by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah who represents Anambra South Senatorial District in the Senate to rehabilitate the Nnewi-Ozubulu-Okija federal road in the State.
The FG’s stop-work order followed an enquiry made by the Anambra State Ministry of Works through the Federal Controller of Works in the state on whether he gave an approval for the road rehabilitation of which the controller asserted that it was not to the knowledge of his Office, the Anambra State government or the Minister of Works that such approval was granted to work on any highway in the state by the Senator
Reacting to this development, the state Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ifejiofor, told newsmen over the weekend that the construction firm also failed to obtain permission from the state government before embarking on the road rehabilitation
He explained that Before the Anambra State Government works on any federal road, it must obtain permission from the Federal Government and same applies to any corporate, private or public individual who decides to work on state roads must first obtain permission from the state government through the state Ministry of Works who sends their engineers to supervise the construction to be sure all roads meets the standard stipulated by the ministry
