The federal government has largely been blamed for the ongoing industrial action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
A human rights activist and former Chairman, Awka branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Barrister Emmanuel Okechukwu Junior, made his feelings known in a chat with journalists in Awka.
According to the legal expert, breaching the agreement which it reached with the union in 2009 is an indication that the Federal government is not serious with education in Nigeria.
He wondered why university professors who should be properly equipped to embark on research should be relegated to the background when a sitting senator takes home whopping millions of Naira monthly.
Barrister Okechukwu Junior advocated that as a way of bringing sanity to the system, a policy should be put in place preventing Nigerian leaders resident in the country from sending their children or wards to foreign universities to study.
The legal expert asserted that Nigerian Universities should be properly funded and Professors in the universities, properly remunerated to embark on research, calling on government to fulfil its agreements with ASUU to enable them call off the strike.
