Four out of the ten villages that make-up Igbariam Community in Anambra East Council Area have been submerged by flood.
Many houses in Anekwem, Ogugu-Etiti, Ubaru, Obidi and Foculary/Catholic Zone are under water.
When our Crew arrived Amanasa Primary School and Saint Anthony’s Catholic Parish, Igbariam, it was observed that they were totally submerged as residents were seen evacuating their buildings amidst tears and lamentations.
They bemoaned the destruction of farm lands, livestock, aquatic lives, plants and other sources of livelihood.
Speaking on the development , the President General, Igbariam Progress Union, IPU, Dr Chris Ofokansi lamented the devastation of the flood and appealed for the dredging of River Niger to contain flood when dams are opened.
Dr Ofokansi, who assured that the IPU will do all within its power to shelter those displaced , called on the governments at all levels to come to their aid as they are exposed to health hazards and other difficulties.
Many displaced persons dumped their possessions along the roads.
