The Commissioner for environment, Engr Felix Odumegwu, has lead a team of environmentalists from the Ministry of environment to the Ministry of Environment’s State Nursery at Amawbia where they develop seedlings of both ornamental and economic trees for planting.
He said they were at the ministry of environment’s State Nursery at Amawbia to plant 50,000 seeds of BAOBAB tree, a donation from Mr Saheed Akinbogu Woods- Ali of Ewenia urban forestry Ibadan, during the Commemoration of Anambra World Earth day 2023, in support of Afforastation Agenda of Mr Governor.
The seeds were broadcasted in the Nursery for proper development as the seeds have gestation and germination period of between 5-10 days.
He said before the end of the year, they would see to the transplanting of the trees to various forest reserves in the State.
He reminded the team of Journalists present that the Governor flagged off the tree planting campaign on the world environment day, where he announced that Anambra will be planting as much as a million trees a year and asked each house hold to develop the habit of planting as much as two trees a year.
