The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, CC Andrew Kumapayi, yesterday, received in audience, the Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Afam Mbanefo, who was on a courtesy visit, in his Office in Awka.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner for Transport said the purpose of the visit was to seek the cooperation of the FRSC in creating safer motoring environment in the State.
The Commissioner appreciated the efforts of FRSC in helping to check the excesses of road users including motorists, motorcyclists, tricyclists and pedestrians, resulting in road accidents.
He expressed sadness that some of these road accidents have in turn, resulted in loss of lives and property, urging them not to relent in their efforts.
The Commissioner restated government’s desire to assist in reducing road accidents to the barest minimum.
Welcoming the Commissioner to his office, the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, assured State Government of FRSC’s commitment in ensuring that Road Crashes are eliminated in the State and promised the Commands full support in all the Ministry’s programmes.
Both leaders agreed to further explore other operational areas and activities, to ensure sanity on the roads.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a copy of the revised Nigeria Highway Code to the Commissioner for Transport by the Anambra Sector Commander of the Corps.

In another development, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, yesterday, convened a crucial meeting with executives of various Tipper Unions in Anambra State, to draw their attention to the increasing rate of Road Traffic Crashes involving Tippers in the State.
The meeting was also aimed at informing the tipper drivers of the commencement of Special Operations on Tippers, by FRSC Anambra State, as contained in the State House of Assembly “Resolution number 13, 2020”, directing the Sector Commander to checkmate the reckless driving of tipper drivers along some major routes in Anambra State.
The Sector Commander warned that during the Special Operations, any tipper driver found wanting would be apprehended immediately, and dealt with accordingly.
Other issues discussed included the disturbing increase in Road Traffic Crashes involving Tipper lorries, Reckless and dangerous driving, Use of illicit drugs and consumption of alcohol by tipper drivers, as well as
Under age driving.
The Leader of the Union, Mr Ozoemena Okoye, on behalf of their members, thanked the Sector Commander for deeming it necessary to call them to order, promising that they would further inform and educate their members on the outcome of the meeting.
