Nigerians will no longer obtain their drivers license without a National Identity Number (NIN).
Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi recently made this known in a media parley.
According to the Corps Marshal, there is now one database with the National Identity Management Commission(NIMC), which means that one can only have one identity and the biometrics doesn’t allow one to play pranks with information.
He said that from henceforth, Nigerians wiling to obtain a drivers license or renew an exisiting one must provide the NIN and with that, no biometrics will be needed anymore as it is already stored in the NIMC database.
Oyeyemi said that it will also help to enhance security.
He also said that only the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) was authorised to test applicants at a cost payable to the state government before referring the applicants for capturing which would be transferred to the database of the country.
He commended the security agencies in the country for the use of technology in fighting crime.
