Fuel scarcity continues to grip Nigeria as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) blames the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for failing to supply enough Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). IPMAN, which represents over 3,000 members and controls the largest share of filling stations nationwide, says its members have struggled to get adequate supplies for the past three years.
Engr. Shina Amoo, IPMAN Chairman at the Ore Depot, stated on Tuesday that NNPCL, currently the sole importer of petroleum products, has neglected IPMAN in distribution.
Amoo revealed that out of 50 petrol stations, only three to eight have fuel, forcing independent marketers to buy at inflated prices from private depots, sometimes paying up to ₦850 per litre.
Amoo criticized the long delays and bureaucracy involved in accessing products from NNPCL, noting that it can take up to five months to receive fuel after payment.
He called for a stop of the corruption in the downstream sector, arguing that this would reduce fuel prices.
