Ghana’s President, John Mahama, has assured Nigerians living in Ghana of their safety, saying there is no place for xenophobia in the country. He gave the assurance while receiving President Tinubu’s special envoy, led by Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, in Accra.
Mahama explained that recent tensions were sparked by the resurfacing of a decade-old video, adding that the protests involved fewer than 50 people and were quickly contained.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to ECOWAS protocols and promised to protect Nigerian lives, businesses, and properties.
Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, in response, said the visit aimed to ease concerns in Nigeria and strengthen bilateral ties, including plans for a permanent Nigeria-Ghana Joint Commission.
