The Federal Government may consider the option of imposing a fresh lockdown on the country if covid 19 cases in the country continue to rise.

The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, stated this during the PTF briefing in Abuja, on Thursday.

According to Aliyu, if the numbers continue to go up and we start having significant deaths, the government will be left with no other option than a lockdown, adding that to avoid this, now is the time to follow the non-pharmaceutical interventions.

Also speaking at the briefing, the PTF Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, decried the record-high daily figures in recent times urging Nigerians to take full responsibility through compliance and vigilance.

Recall that the Federal Government had in March 2020 locked down some states for over 5 weeks as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 during the first wave of the pandemic.
