The government has mandated all government organizations and agencies to purchase military hardware from the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Kaduna.
This directive applies nationwide, with DICON in Kaduna being the primary supplier.
The announcement was made ahead of DICON’s 60th anniversary.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Ibrahim Kana, stated that this move aims to boost Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings, create jobs for skilled Nigerians, and reduce reliance on foreign imports. The new DICON Act signed by President Bola Tinubu supports this mandate to strengthen national development and security.
He also said the Government agencies can only source military hardware from abroad if the desired items are unavailable at DICON.
