Anambra State Government has announced that 2 billion will be distributed to agro-farmers in the state, to support their agricultural activities.
Gov. Willie Obiano said the fund which would be distributed in three weeks time was received from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Explaining, the Governor pointed out that of the fund, 60 per cent will go to women while 40 per cent will go to men as The agency in charge will be directed to profile who should get what and when to round up the process to enable the Government launch it immediately for distribution.
Gov. Obiano who announced this while addressing journalists after his tour to communities submerged by flooding in the state, made sure to reach out personally to flood victims, with a Naval Boat toured the submerged communities in Anambra East and West, as well as Ogbaru Local Government Areas accompanied by the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Chief Paul Odenigbo and other top naval and police officers.
During the Tour, the Governor observed that though the floodwater was receding, it had destroyed many properties in its wake. Houses are still sub merged and farmlands along with planted crops washed away. The situation has displaced a lot of families as well as destroyed their farm produce.
The Governor emphasized on the need to rehabilitate the people of the flooded communities who were merely trying to survive from the shock of COVID-19 pandemic before the emergence of flooding, called for major support on behalf of the flood victims, both in cash and items to alleviate their suffering, also pleaded with the Federal Government to intervene in the situation in order to restore their fading hopes.
In his remarks, the executive director of SEMA, Paul Odenigbo maintained that the FG had since sent in a team from National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to do proper assessment of affected flood victims in the state while pointing out that the assessment would include people and families affected as well as farmlands and buildings.
