Joining the growing list of presidential aspirants is Governor Nyesom Wike, of Rivers, who has declared his intention to contest the presidency in the 2023 general election.
Wike spoke on his decision to run on Sunday, 27th March 2022, when he visited Benue to consult stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state over his ambition to run for the presidency.
He said that for anyone running in an election, power isn’t given for free; it is taken and to that effect, he has come out and is going to take this power from APC back to PDP by the grace of God.
He said that God has given them what it takes which is why God is making APC make mistakes every day and that is how to know who God is with.
He thanked the people of Benue for receiving him to come and talk to them and remarked that he is declaring for the first time in Benue state because of his special relationship with them.
He bemoaned the lack of security in the country, stating that without security, there is no governance.
He also mentioned that nobody can bring investment in the country because there is no respect for the rule of law, which affects investors from trusting in the system of the country.
Wike maintained that he stood and worked for the party and has nowhere to run to because he takes it personally that the party should not die. He shared his belief that PDP will take back the country come 2023.
Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom and other state stakeholders were present at the event.
