Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has declared a zero tolerance for waste in the state and to that effect, Mr Governor has made the monthly sanitation mandatory in the state after the symbolic flag-off at Eke- awka market Awka last month.
Onitsha and environs witnessed another intensive flag-off on Saturday.
Present on the occasion were: Igwe of Onitsha Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe ably represented by Chief Sam Chidebelu, Anambra state Honourable Commissioner for Environment Engr Felix Odimegwu, MD Aswama , Commitee/Members of ASWAMA Board, Appointees of the Governor on Environment, Transition Chairman Onitsha North and South, ,Environmental health officers, among others.
Areas visited were Awka road, Ukworji, Oguta road, New market road, Main market, Ose market and environs.
Igwe Achebe thanked the state government for the commitment, priority placed on the Environment , he prayed for the good health of everyone and promised to mobilize the residents of Onitsha community to key into the vision of this progressive government.
The State Commissioner for Environment Engr Felix Odimegwu reassured the citizens that the contractors/ service providers drawn from the 21 constituencies have been mandated to evacuate waste via door to door collection and soon there will be no illegal/indiscriminate disposal of waste in the state.
