GPSDC Organizes Capacity Building Workshop On Transformative Budgeting and Financing For Improved Tuberculosis Services In Anambra

A capacity building workshop on Transformative Budgeting and Financing For Improved Tuberculosis (TB) Services in Awka, Anambra State.
The workshop was organized by Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre (GPSDC) and FundTB Cluster, anchored by Policy Alert, in partnership with The Palladium Group, and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the media in Anambra State in promoting transformative budgeting and financing for improved TB services.
Anambra State has a significant burden of TB, and efforts to combat the disease are hindered by funding gaps and inefficient resource allocation.
The workshop equipped CSOs and media with knowledge and skills on transformative budgeting and financing for TB services, strengthened advocacy efforts for increased funding and improved resource allocation for TB services, and fostered collaboration between CSOs, media, and government agencies for effective TB service delivery.
The target audience included CSOs working on TB and health-related issues, media practitioners reporting on health and development issues, and government agencies responsible for TB service delivery in Anambra State.
Resource Persons Shared Insights on TB Symptoms and Reporting
Oguejiofor Chiamaka, State TB M&E focal person, was one of the resource persons at the capacity building workshop.
She shared valuable insights with participants on how to identify symptoms of TB and where to report such cases. Chiamaka emphasized the importance of early detection and reporting of TB cases, stating that “TB is a preventable and curable disease, but early detection is key to preventing its spread and reducing mortality rates.” She also encouraged participants to take active role in identifying and reporting TB cases in their communities, saying “we must work together to combat TB and reduce its burden in Anambra State”.
Mrs. Ifeyinwa Unachukwu, in her presentation at the workshop, highlighted the importance of community engagement and participation in TB control efforts. She emphasized that community members should be empowered to take ownership of TB control programs and work closely with healthcare providers to identify and report TB cases.
Her presentation focused on strategies for collaborating with partners and government agencies to effectively drive the implementation of TB control programs. She emphasized the importance of building strong partnerships and collaborations to leverage resources, expertise, and influence.
She also stressed the importance of advocacy and policy engagement in driving TB control efforts.
Mrs Unachukwu encouraged participants to work with government agencies and other stakeholders to develop and implement policies that support TB control, and to advocate for increased funding and resources for TB control programs.
The participants appreciated the presentations of the resource persons and engaged in a discussion on ways to apply these strategies in their own work to drive TB control efforts in Anambra State.
