Electricity consumers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed frustration over the repeated collapse of the National Grid, calling for the dismissal of personnel responsible for managing it. The grid collapsed again on Saturday morning, marking the second failure within a week and the seventh in 2024.
Residents from Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Area 10 voiced their concerns, criticizing the authorities for failing to maintain a stable power supply. Bisi Afolabi, a resident of Kuje, stated that those in charge are incapable of managing the grid and should be replaced. Samuel Maduka, a barber, and Solomon Oche, a printer, echoed similar sentiments, calling the situation an embarrassment.
Mrs. Uduak Essien, a cold room owner in Gwagwalada, lamented the recurring failures despite the significant investments in the power sector. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the outage, attributing it to a system failure at 8:16 a.m. on Saturday.
