Gunmen kill policeman at Anambra checkpoint, injure one other

Gunmen attacked a police checkpoint at Omata Junction on the Nnewi-Oba Road in Idemili South Local Government Area.

The attack occurred around 9:20 a.m. on Friday, resulting in the death of one police officer and serious injuries to another.

The attackers reportedly threw explosive devices at the officers before fleeing the scene.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has launched an intensive manhunt for the attackers and an operation led by the Assistant Commissioner in charge of the Nnewi Area Command is currently underway, with local support, to apprehend the gunmen.

The injured officer is receiving treatment, and the area is now secured by police forces. Further details will be provided as the investigation continues.
