Heavy Fire Outbreak At Timber Market, Umuokpu, Awka

Citizens have been reminded that it is still the peak of harmattan and dry season, therefore, they should avoid anything that can cause fire outbreaks.

The Fire Chief,
Anambra State Fire Service, Engr. Dr. Martin Agbili, gave the advice following heavy fire outbreak at Timber Market, Umuokpu, Awka, on Tuesday, 21st February, 2023, at about 10.16pm.

Engr. Agbili informed that the State Fire Service, received a distress call, and immediately deployed the fire truck and firefighters to the scene.

He pointed out that the fire was later put under control, but added that the cause of the fire was still unknown.

According to him, no life was lost, but about 17 shops were badly affected.

He further informed that his men were able to prevent it from spreading to many other shops, and added that they withdrew from the fire scene at about 1pm.

The Fire Chief also reminded the citizens that time of fire call, usually determines time of response to fire incident, and urged all to always prevent fire outbreaks to save lives and property.
