Reports reaching our Newsdesk said four years after Fulani herdsmen massacred the largely agrarian people of Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, some suspected herdsmen have returned to
Efu-Ozara and Ugwu-Iga, in Ukpabi Nimbo community.
The report alleged that the herders destroyed crops with their cattle, while also setting farmers’ settlements ablaze in the area.
According to the report, the herders also allegedly destroyed crops in Ezi Ani, Nsukka Local Government Area of the state with their cattle, causing panic in the sleepy community.
The traditional ruler of Nimbo community, Igwe John Akor, confirmed the incident, expressed worries the attack on farmers and destruction of crops by cattle in the community have become persistent.
He also informed that he had always asked the herders to avoid people’s farm while grazing, pointing out that they paid compensation to farmers sometimes after destroying their crops.
Adding his voice, another resident, Uchenna Onyeji, maintained that farmers have lost all hope of any solution because after engaging the herders in peace deals, they would still return to destroy their farms.
He explained that sometimes, the herders would bring 100,000 naira and share to 20 farmers as compensation, then, a farmer would get 3,000 naira for a farm which would have given him between 100,000 and N200,000 naira.
He said most farmers have given up farming especially as authorities do not do anything when they complain.
