A social crusader and activist, Mr. Ifeomamebe Orjiako, has described Igbo culture and tradition as the ways of life and pride, which must be protected for posterity.
Mr. Orjiako made this remark during his fourth annual new yam celebration last weekend in his home town, Adazi Nnukwu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Mr. Orjiako, who is also a radio program presenter, described the promotion of Igbo culture and tradition as his top priority.
He called on all Igbos to make maximum efforts to ensure that the Igbo identity and heritage does not go into extinction.
Speaking to Kpakpando correspondents during the event, Ifeọmamebe described the new yam festival as a way of sustaining the culture and traditions of the forefathers, adding that it was part of the Igbo man’s identity which must be bequeathed to generations to come.
He called on all schools in the Igbo speaking states to include in their curriculum, activities and subjects that would help to promote Igbo culture and traditions.
Highlights of the occasion were some cultural displays and presentations that helped to portray various Igbo traditions and culture.
