The traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, has called on Anambra state government to facilitate the overall fencing of the Holy Cross High School, Umuawulu–Mbaukwu, to secure its territory and facilities against vandalism.
Igwe Egwuonwu in a statement on the insecurity in the area, noted that land encroachment has been recorded in the unfenced institution.
The royal father alleged that the Fulani have found a safe haven on a portion of land located in the school premises, noting that complete fencing of the school can salvage the situation which he described as worrisome.
He equally made a call for the fencing of the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp located in Umuawulu–Mbaukwu to secure the facilities in the area.
On the Haba Bridge located at Umuawulu, Igwe Egwuonwu urged state government to tidy up the complete rehabilitation of the bridge which serves as a link between Anambra state, Imo, Abia, Cross River and Rivers state.
He expressed worry that the bridge may not survive this rainy season.
The traditional ruler further asked the Obiano administration to make an adjustment in enhancing its welfare policy for traditional rulers in the state to cope with the challenges of their office.
