
INEC Assures Free, Fair, Credible Rerun Elections In Two Anambra Federal Constituencies Billed For February 3rd
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Anambra State, Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, has assured free, fair and credible Federal Constituency Re-run election billed for February 3rd.
Queen Elizabeth who gave the assurance at a media briefing at the INEC headquarters, Awka, on Wednesday, 24th January, 2024, also affirmed that INEC in the State is very ready for the election.
She disclosed that the February 3rd Rerun election will take place in Nnewi North and South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency as well as Orumba North and South federal Constituency.

The INEC Resident Commissioner explained that the rerun election was due to court order which cancelled the February 25th, 2023 election in the areas and directed a Re-run in the twenty-one polling units in the two local government areas
Queen Elizabeth, while breaking down the polling units according to the local government areas, informed that the election would be held in five polling units and four wards in Nnewi North, and sixteen polling units and one ward in Orumba North LGA, specifically in Nanka.

She assured that arrangements have been made for adequate security before, during and after the election, urging the youths to shun violence and not allow themselves to be used as agents of distractions or thugs during the election, as anyone caught will face the music.
Queen Elizabeth, while reminding all that campaigns end two days to elections, also enjoined contestants to carry out peaceful and issue-based campaigns to convince the electorate to vote for them, and to shun rigging vote-buying, or other forms of irregularities as INEC will not condone such.
She reminded them that it is not a do or die affair, and that once it is their destiny, they will certainly get it, but if not, they should wait for their own time.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner further encouraged the 97,438 registered voters who have collected their Permanent Voter Cards in Nnewi North Local Government Area and one hundred and sixty-one thousand, nine hundred and fourteen registered voters who collected their Voters Card in Orumba North to come out on the 3rd of February to cast their votes for their preferred candidates.
The INEC boss who appreciated the media in Anambra for factual reportage and always confirming issues before publishing, and for reporting the umpire correctly, thanked the NUJ executives for coordinating the members well, and expressed confidence that the forthcoming rerun election will be a success.
In a vote of thanks, the Acting Admin Secretary, INEC, Anambra State, Engineer Chukwuemeka Nnaji, restated that INEC is resolute in conducting free, fair and credible rerun election, as they are committed to being honest and unbiased, and appealed for support.
