Fear has enveloped Akoko communities in Ondo State’s Northern senatorial district due to frequent abductions of farmers, their families, travellers, and market women.
Many farmers now travel in groups for safety as kidnappers usually strike early in the morning or evening.
Community leader Alhaji Akeem Adeleye expressed concern, noting that their people now live in fear and farmers go to their farms in groups as he called for increased security measures.
State Amotekun commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, mentioned that kidnappings were confined to border areas and efforts were underway to address the issue.
He confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to a recent kidnapping case in Supare Akoko, which resulted in one death and four victims being taken.
He added that recovered items would be returned to their owners.
