Insecurity: Gov. Akeredolu raises alarm over illegal immigrants in Nigeria

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has raised alarm over the high rate of illegal immigrants who pass through the nation’s land borders to perpetrate crime in the country.

He made his fears known yesterday in Akure , when he received the Zonal Coordinator , Nigeria Immigration Service, Zone F, Mrs Dora Amahian in his office. Zone F of the Immigration service consists of Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states.

He said that the country is facing serious security challenges as a number of criminal activities in the country’s forest reserves are being perpetrated by foreigners.

He called for collaboration with other security agencies as the task may be overwhelming for only the Immigration Service to tackle.

In her remark, the Assistant Comptroller General , Dora Amahian appreciated the governor for maintaining a cordial relationship with the immigration service in the state.

She called for continuous participation of all and sundry to facilitate efforts at ensuring a secured and peaceful state.

She also solicited the support of the media in the area of advocacy to disseminate information to educate Nigerians on their roles to protect the country’s territorial integrity.
