The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has warned officers against unlawful and prolonged detentions, stating that violators will face serious consequences.
A statement by Force PRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Sunday reaffirmed the police leadership’s commitment to upholding human rights and ensuring due process in detentions.
The IG noted that illegal detentions erode public trust and urged officers to maintain the highest standards in their interactions with citizens.
This warning follows growing concerns over arbitrary arrests and detentions by some officers. The police force has assured Nigerians that detainees will be treated with dignity and in accordance with the law.
