Police in Italy has arrested a 32 year old man for the brutal murder of a Nigerian man. According to a video that went viral on Sunday, 39 year old Alika Ogorchukwu was beaten to death by an Italian man identified as Filippo Claudio Ferlazzo in Civitanova Marche’s busy town center on Friday.
It was reported that with the aid of street cameras, Police tracked Ferlazzo’s movement and arrested him on Saturday on charges of murder and theft, while he is currently being held in the Montacuto prison in Ancona.
One of the investigators, Matteo Luconi said that the cause of the dispute which led to Alika’s death was unconnected to racism but instead was a frivolous matter that led to the dispute.
It was said that Alika, a physically challenged man was selling goods when his attacker grabbed his crutch and struck him down with a series of blows. The incident was videoed by bystanders who did nothing to stop the attack. Meanwhile, Alika’s wife Charity has called for justice for her husband.
The death of Alika has sparked outrage in different parts of the world especially as Italy enters a parliamentary election campaign in which the right wing coalition has already made immigration an issue. Right-wing leader Matteo Salvini has expressed his sadness over the death saying that security has no colour and needs to return to being a right.
