Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) disconnected power to the Kaduna State Government House and other state offices over unpaid bills totaling N2.9 billion.
This action followed the Kaduna Internal Revenue Service sealing Kaduna Electric’s headquarters due to unpaid taxes exceeding N600 million.
Jerry Adams, the Executive Chairman of the service, led the operation with a court order for closure until the taxes are settled.
Kaduna Electric’s spokesperson, AbdulAzeez Abdullahi, stated that the disconnection occurred after multiple attempts to resolve the issue, including a disconnection notice on July 21.
Despite a payment of over N256 million in May for past electricity consumption, significant arrears remain.
The disconnection, described as a last resort, underscores the company’s need to fulfill its financial obligations amid sector challenges.
