The Kogi State Government has called on the Federal Government for urgent intervention as floods have devastated 70 communities across the state.
During an inspection of the Edeha community, Deputy Governor Joel Salifu, accompanied by the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, expressed that despite the state’s preparedness, the situation has overwhelmed local capacity.
Thousands of homes and farmlands have been submerged, and while no lives have been lost, many residents have relocated to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
Salifu, who also chairs the State Flood Disaster Response Committee, appealed for federal support to alleviate the suffering.
The state has already established 48 IDP camps to accommodate those affected.
Meanwhile, community leaders, including the Chief of Edeha, Abdullahi Isah, echoed the plea for federal assistance, describing the flooding as a recurring issue. Traditional rulers also pledged their support for the state’s response efforts.
