A new report has revealed that Sierra Leone’s deadly street drug, kush, contains highly addictive synthetic opioids and cannabinoids, with key ingredients imported from China, the Netherlands, and possibly the UK.
President Julius Maada Bio, who previously declared kush a national threat, launched a task force to combat its spread. However, the lack of information on its composition has hindered efforts.
The study, conducted by the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime, found that kush is mixed in labs in Freetown and sold widely, fueling addiction, corruption, and deaths.
Authorities continue their crackdown as the drug crisis worsens.
