
The Commander , 9 Brigade Nigerian Army , Brigader General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, has confirmed that he received a call from governor Sanwo Olu of Lagos state around 7:23pm on October 20, 2020, informing him that a certain Lieutenant Colonel Bello was reportedly shooting at the Lekki tollgate where many EndSARS protesters had gathered.
General Etsu Ndagi is one of the four military officers listed as witnesses of the Nigerian Army before the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing the Lekki tollgate shootings.
The General also said that he called Lt. Colonel who is the Commanding officer, 65 Battalion, Bonny Camp , Victoria Island and Bello confirmed that he only fired blank ammunition into the air.
Lt.Colonel Bello in his statement before the panel , said that that by the time he got to the tollgate, the crowd had turned violent as hoodlums had mixed with the protesters and were throwing stones, bottles and other dangerous objects at the soldiers.
Bello insisted that he only fired blank ammunition into the air and not the crowd. Like the Nigerian Army has been claiming, Bello also said that there was no massacre as claimed as no one was shot dead there and no body was taken away.
The panel on Saturday , suspended sitting as two of the youth members were absent in protest of the EndSARS protesters Promoters accounts that the Central Bank Of Nigeria froze.
