The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Edo State clarified that the rice looted during an incident in Urora, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, was part of a state-funded relief program, not supplied by the Federal Government.
CAN Chairman, Dr. Irekpono Omoike, explained that the vandalized residence belonged to a vendor of the CAN Implementation Committee for the Christian Feeding Programme.
This initiative, funded by the state government, aimed to distribute two billion naira worth of rice to vulnerable Christians.
The program, now in its second phase, had already distributed 60,000 bags of rice in its first phase.
Despite misinformation circulating, Omoike emphasized that the rice was specifically purchased for the relief effort.
The recent looting occurred when a logistics company’s truck, transporting rice for distribution, broke down.
The rice was intended for various Christian groups and vulnerable individuals.
CAN reiterated that the incident did not involve federal government supplies.
