Following the release of 11 hostages, some of whom were held captive after the Abuja-Kaduna train attack, Malam Tukur Mamu, an associate of Sheik Ahmad Gumi, and also a lead negotiator between the federal government and the terrorist, who spearheaded the dialogue that led to the release, has said that they have succeeded in building confidence between the government and the terrorist and will do everything to sustain it in the interest of the innocent victims still in captivity.
He said that the painful and frustrating process must be followed if they are to secure the lives of the remaining victims.
Mamu, who worked with the security agents , said that the Chief of Defence Staff under President Buhari has done well under the circumstances as the Army and the DSS have played crucial roles, but also stated that there is no military solution to the present predicament.
He also commended Sheik Gumi who worked behind the scenes to make the release of the victims possible. He did not mention whether any demands of the terrorists were met but said that no money was involved in the release of the victims but said the urgent priority of the government is to safely secure the release of the remaining victims.
He also stated that after this, he said there should be security , especially on the rail lines and that can be achieved through mediation and not the use of force as it has become clear that the roads, rail lines are vulnerable to attacks.
