Police operatives attached to Nnewi Division at about 11.55pm on Thursday, arrested one Emeka Ezimadu, 47, of Okpuneze Uruagu in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Confirming the arrest in a statement in Awka on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, said the suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances yet to be ascertained, attacked and killed two of his biological children namely; Ifechukwu Ezimadu, aged 9 years, Mmeso Ezimadu, aged 2 and his own mother, one Agnes Ezimadu, aged 85, of same address with a cutlass while they were sleeping.
Mohammed further hinted that the suspect equally used same offensive weapon and injured his three other children namely; Nonso Ezimadu, aged 12, Chinaemerem Ezimadu, aged 11, and Ngozi Ezimadu, aged 8 years of same address.
He added that police detectives visited the scene and rushed victims to the Akwudo hospital for medical attention where the two children and the aged mother were certified dead, while the three other injured children are now receiving treatment.
The PPRO informed that the case has been transferred to State CID, Awka, for discreet investigation.
