The Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano has told market leaders in the state that his administration built the Anambra International cargo and passenger airport for them because according to him, the airport especially the cargo section will tremendously improve trade and commerce in the state.
The governor made this known on Saturday, 15th May, 2021 during his routine inspection of the airport and accompanied by leaders of sixty-five (65) Anambra major markets and Women leaders, led by the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Uche Okafor Wiper.
He informed the traders that the state started and completed the airport project without borrowing a kobo from any financial institution even as the state continues payment of salaries to civil servants and others.
Anambra state Commissioner for Works, Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor who was on ground to receive the Governor told the traders that the state government started and completed the airport in fifteen months which according to him was the first so far by any state government or Nigeria nation.
Engr. Ifejiofor while speaking at the terminal building informed the market leaders that the building will equally host tens of shops and other offices.
The Commissioner also noted that going by the standard with which the airport was built, it can land any plane in the world and also said that flights can land from either side of the the runway because of the way it was built.
