Medics Avert Player’s Death During Rangers/Adamawa Utd NPFL Tie

The quick intervention of medical personnel on duty using the medical facilities on ground at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu averted what could have been another death during NPFL match as the medical personnel battled to save the life of Adamawa Utd forward, Emmanuel Ibekwe during the NPFL match day 15 clash.

Ibekwe had an aerial clash with Rangers’ defender, Uche John 28 minutes into the game.
Ibekwe fell awkwardly but Osas Okoro’s alertness as regards the attacker’s awkward posture on the ground saw him raise an alarm that forced the medical personnel onto the pitch while the life support equipped ambulance was called in.

Medical doctors and nurses from both teams and those from the state Football Association quickly went to work at reviving the footballer which was achieved, before he was taken to a nearby medical facility for further observations and treatment.

Barrister Amobi Ezeaku Rangers Team Manager thanked God for sparing the life of the player while noting that the team could have experienced what had happened during the previous season, when a player lost his life on the pitch but pointed out that has influenced their level of preparedness in handling Emergencies such as the one that just happened.

Davidson Owumi, LMC C.E.O designate added that clubs and Football Associations has over time been urged to be up to date with their medical facilities in other to avert tragedies of which
Thankfully, the home side, Enugu state government, and the F.A were spot on which is why contained the situation immediately.

Recall, that last season, a player Chineme Martins died in similar circumstance during a league game involving Nasarawa Utd and Katsina Utd.
NFF set up a probe panel to unravel circumstances that led to the death of the player.
But last week, the family of the late footballer dragged NFF, LMC to the industrial court over what they termed as ‘unfulfilled’ promises.
