Malaysia’s former leader Mahathir Mohamad says Muslims have a right ‘to kill millions of French people’ after a deadly attack in Nice, France.
Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad says he believes in freedom of expression but it should not be used to insult others.
Mahathir’s comments came as an attacker with a knife killed at least three people and wounded several others at a church in the French city of Nice on Thursday in an incident the city’s mayor described as an act of terrorism.
In a blog post on Thursday, which he also posted on his official Twitter handle, Mahathir was quoted as saying that Muslims have a right to be angry and to kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past. But by and large, the Muslims have not applied the ‘eye for an eye’ law. Muslims don’t. So therefore , The French shouldn’t.
The former Malaysian Prime Mininster also said that since the french have blamed all Muslims and the Muslims’ religion for what was done by one angry person, the Muslims have a right to punish the French, referring to a man who decapitated a French teacher earlier this month.
Mahathir, who served as Malaysian premier twice for a total of 24 years, said that French President Emmanuel Macron was “not showing that he is civilised”, adding that the French president was also very primitive.
Twitter initially flagged Mahathir’s tweet about killing “millions of French people” as it was seen as “glorifying violence” but did not remove it.
However, shortly afterwards the tweet was deleted entirely.
