NANDRUM Updates Anambra Drug Dealers on Prevalling Drug Abuse

The National Association of Nigerian Drug Monitoring NANDRUM, in conjunction with the leadership of the.  Ogbogwu International Market, Bridgehead Onitsha, Anambra State, has organized a seminar for drug dealers in the market. 

The seminar was aimed at updating drug dealers’ knowledge on current prevailing drug abuse among children and adults in society.

Speaking at the event which took place at  Sharon Hall, Anglican Women Ministry Onitsha, Anambra State, the Chairman of the Bridgehead drug market, Mr. Donatus Ajamma, expressed delight at the seminar, saying it was a step further to educate the traders more on what they do not know in the drug business.

He commended NANDRUM officers and other agencies for making the seminar a huge success and also praised Governor Willie Obiano, and the Commissioner for Markets, Honourable Uchenna Okafor, for their support.

Contributing, the Executive Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Drug Monitoring, Dr. Christabel Okoye, revealed that the association is charged with the responsibilities of monitoring drugs in the markets, sensitizing the traders and monitoring what they sell, including regular influx of drugs in Nigerian markets. 

The Ambassador, joint Committee in the Senate and House of Representatives at the National Assembly on Drugs and NARCOTICS informed that the agency has over sixty task force teams in Onitsha and about twenty executives in all the states who are equally into drug businesses. 

He said, “Drug abuse destroys man or woman. It is more devastating than Covid–19. It is dangerous for any living thing. The nefarious actions of Boko Haram are induced by drug abuse” She posited.

Also commenting, the Chairman emeritus of the drug market, Honourable Emeka Ezeanyika, affirmed that the seminar was to improve the knowledge of traders in the drug business.

“Time has gone when traders are labeled illiterates. Enlightenment is part of education. So, I am impressed by the seminar.” Chairman emeritus said.

The seminar was attended by drug dealers within the Onitsha metropolis, while dignitaries in attendance were the Commissioner for Markets in the State, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, represented by HOD Markets in the ministry, Dr. Ego Nwosu, Unit Commander, FRSC Onitsha, Mr. Dada Udlea, and State Deputy Director, NARCOTICS Operation and intelligence, Mr. Hasan Sakapa, as well as other associate drug agencies drawn from across the nation.
