The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has distanced itself from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) protest against the recent hike in voice calls and data prices.
In a press briefing on Friday, NANS stated that the protest might not address critical issues affecting Nigerian students, including poor education funding, inadequate infrastructure, and insecurity.
NANS called for peaceful engagement and suggested that protests were not the best solution. Instead, the group urged the federal government to prioritize repairing the dilapidated roads in the North East, particularly the Numan-Yola-Gombe road, which has become a safety hazard, claiming the lives of many students. The association also called for more funding to address infrastructure challenges in the region.
