Napoli Renames Stadium After Late Club Legend, Maradona

Napoli football club has resolved to rename it’s stadium; Stadio San Paulo, after Diego Maradona in memory of the late Argentine legend,
Naples town hall has said on Friday.

This comes after the resolution was earlier proposed by Naples mayor, Luigi De Magistris hours after the news of his passing .

In a decree signed by the entire city council, Maradona was also hailed as the greatest footballer of all time and an idol of the entire city.
Maradona played for Napoli for 7 years, between 1984 and 1991; winning 2 Italian league titles and other prestigious trophies.

Napoli have already paid homage to Maradona, who played for the club from in two home games.
The players wore his number 10 jersey for a minute’s silence in a Europa League game the day after Maradona’s death.
In Serie A on Sunday against Roma the team also played in a jersey reminiscent of the Argentine colours, designed as a tribute to Maradona.

Maradona died on the 25th of November 2020 at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack while in recovery post brain surgery in his home in Tigres, Buenos Aires.
