The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated over 100 truckloads of fake, substandard, and banned drugs from markets in Lagos, Anambra, and Abia states within six weeks.
NAFDAC’s Resident Consultant, Sayo Akintola, confirmed the operation in a statement on Sunday. Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, warned that allowing such drugs in circulation could severely impact public health.
According to Adeyeye, traders engaged in illegal drug sales attacked police and NAFDAC officials during the enforcement raids, attempting to prevent the seizure of their counterfeit products.
She stressed that NAFDAC will continue these operations to protect Nigerians and promote a safe pharmaceutical market.
