The National Productivity Centre (NPC) has issued a warning to state governments against decreasing workdays due to the impact of the removal of petrol subsidies on workers.
Dr. Nasir Raji-Mustapha, the Director General of the Centre, conveyed this message during a management training session in Keffi, Nasarawa state on Monday.
He argued that while the concept of work has evolved beyond physical spaces, reducing workdays could harm the country’s productivity. Dr. Raji-Mustapha emphasized the need for proper infrastructure to support remote work in Nigeria, suggesting that rather than reducing workdays, governments should invest in facilities that enable virtual work.
He also highlighted that simply reducing workdays isn’t the same as embracing virtual work, and cautioned against such a move, which he believed would lower the already weak national productivity.
