NDLEA, Anambra State Govt. To Set Up Drug Control Committees In Council Areas, Communities

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA says it is finalizing plans with the Anambra State Government to set up drug control committees in the twenty-one local government areas and the one hundred and seventy-nine communities in the state.

The State Commander of the Agency, Mr. Daniel Onyishi, who disclosed this in Awka, intimated that they are working with the Ministry of Local Governments, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs on plans to set up the committees.

He pointed out that the committees will be geared towards increasing stakeholder involvement in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse in communities.

According to the State NDLEA Commander, the committee will draw membership from different stakeholder groups in local government areas and communities and they will be expected to programme different ways of educating and sensitizing the populace on the basic information they need to know about the dangers of drug use and abuse.

Mr Onyishi Urged well-meaning individuals and groups to partner the agency in the upgrade of its rehabilitation centre to meet the increasing demands for people seeking help and therapy in ending their dependence on drugs and other substances.
