New cases of the novel Coronavirus that emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in late December are being reported daily around the world.

More than 800,000 people have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, while 23 million infections have been confirmed in at least 188 countries and territories.

More than 14.7 million people have recovered to date.

Of the countries that have so far confirmed coronavirus cases,

United States leads with five million, five hundred and seventy three thousand, eight hundred and fifty seven cases, with 174,255 deaths.

Brazil is the second hit with three million, five hundred and one thousand, nine hundred and seventy five cases with 112,304 deaths.

In Africa, South Africa tops the chart with 599,940 cases with 12,618 deaths.
