The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is set to kick-off on Sunday, the 27th of December, 2020.

According to the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare at a press briefing, which held at the National Stadium in Lagos on Friday,
The ministry will be meeting with the NPFL and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to solidify plans for the restart of club football in the country

He noted that besides the pandemic, the football league in the country has not resumed due to issues with the organisers.

Earlier in the year, on March 19th, 2020
The NFF President, Amaju Pinnick had announced the closure of football activities in Nigeria, citing the increased number of COVID-19 cases in the country as the reason.

In recent times, however, the continued pause on football activities in the country has been heavily criticized and blamed for the poor outing of Nigerian teams in the CAF champions league and confederation cup.
