Nigeria Red Cross Holds Interactive Workshop For Journalists In Anambra, Clarifies Certain Grey Areas, Calls For Sustained Cordial Relationship
The Nigeria Red Cross Society has organized a One-day interactive workshop for journalists in Anambra State to enlighten them more on the workings of the humanitarian organization as well as clarify certain grey areas.
Delivering his lecture during the event at the Red Cross Headquarters, Amawbia, Anambra State Branch Communication Officer of the Red Cross Society, Mr Joseph Obidigwe, spoke on the origin of the organization, its principles, its mandate and the emblems among others.
Obidigwe listed the fundamental principles of the Red Cross as humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, Voluntary service, unity and universality.
Speaking on the emblems, the Red Cross Branch Communication officer posited that the emblems are Red Cross on a white background, the Crescent and the Crystal, adding that what is used in Nigeria is the Red Cross on a white background.
He, however, noted that the emblems, though established and backed by law, are being misused by some unauthorized persons or bodies.
Obidigwe further appreciated the media for for always being there for them and called for continued support and effective coverage of their humanitarian services.
The Branch Secretary, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State, Engr Kingsley Okoye, explained that the workshop aimed at building the capacity of media for accurate reportage of Red Cross activities and programs.
Engr Okoye highly appreciated the media for always being there for them, stressing the need for continued partnership to achieve the set objectives.
The Branch Communication Adviser, Ruth Chigbue, who spoke on “Our Mandate”, noted the role of the Press in forming and building a better society.
She appreciated the media as one of their invaluable partners, and stressed the need to maintain the long term cordial relationship to help Red Cross achieve its Mandate.
